Best Ecommerce Fraud Prevention Software: 5 Tools to Reduce Chargebacks and Protect Revenue

Software Comparison • Fraud Prevention • Ecommerce

A stolen card order looks like a good sale for about a week. Then the real cardholder disputes it, the bank pulls the money back, you pay a chargeback fee, and the product is already gone. Turn away too many good customers to avoid that, and you lose sales of a different kind.

Ecommerce fraud prevention software sits between checkout and fulfillment. It scores each order for risk using signals like IP location, device data, email age and purchase velocity, then approves, declines or flags the order for review. Some tools go further and pay you back if an order they approved turns into a fraud chargeback. Others help you fight disputes after they arrive.

Below, we compare five well-known options for Shopify, WooCommerce and Stripe-based stores, show what each costs according to its official pricing page or app listing, and explain the difference between a chargeback guarantee and a scoring-only tool. If you are still choosing how to take payments, read our guide to the best payment gateways for ecommerce first, since your processor decides some of your options here.

Editorial note: this article contains no affiliate links. Prices and features were checked against each vendor’s official pages on November 7, 2026, and we have not hands-on tested these tools. Vendors change plans often, so confirm current pricing before you buy.

Quick answer: If you want someone else to carry the cost of fraud chargebacks, look at Signifyd (custom quote) or Wyllo, formerly NoFraud, which publishes guarantee plans from $250 a month on Shopify. If you take payments through Stripe, start with Stripe Radar, since a basic version is included. For WooCommerce on a budget, FraudLabs Pro has a free plan for 500 checks a month. To win back money from disputes you already have, add Chargeflow, which charges only on recovered chargebacks.

  • Best for a full chargeback guarantee: Signifyd
  • Best guarantee with published Shopify pricing: Wyllo (formerly NoFraud)
  • Best for stores already on Stripe: Stripe Radar
  • Best free start for WooCommerce: FraudLabs Pro
  • Best for chargeback recovery: Chargeflow

Why Fraud Costs More Than the Order You Lose

The 2026 LexisNexis True Cost of Fraud Study for Retail and Ecommerce in North America, based on a survey of 513 risk and fraud leaders in the US and Canada, found that every $1 of direct fraud loss now costs US merchants about $5.13 once you add fees, lost merchandise, shipping and staff time. That multiplier was about $2.40 in 2016.

What fraud really costs merchants

Key findings for North American retail and ecommerce. Source: LexisNexis Risk Solutions, 2026 True Cost of Fraud Study (released June 24, 2026).

$5.13 total cost to US merchants for every $1 of direct fraud loss, up from about $2.40 in 2016.
Up to 83% of fraud costs for ecommerce merchants come from online and mobile channels.
37% of retail and ecommerce organizations reported significant revenue losses tied to fraud over the past year.
54% of US ecommerce merchants reported higher customer churn linked to their anti-fraud measures.

That last number matters as much as the first. Blocking too many orders drives good customers away, so the goal is accuracy, not just more declines. Good fraud software approves more legitimate orders while catching the bad ones.

Chargeback guarantees vs scoring-only tools

Fraud tools fall into three groups, and the difference changes both price and risk.

  • Guaranteed protection. The vendor approves or declines each order. If an order it approved later becomes a fraud chargeback, the vendor reimburses you. Signifyd and Wyllo work this way. You usually pay a percentage of approved order value, and the vendor carries the loss on its own mistakes.
  • Scoring-only. The tool gives each order a risk score and lets you set rules, but you make the final call and you pay for any chargeback. Stripe Radar and FraudLabs Pro work this way. They cost far less, but the risk stays with you.
  • Dispute management and recovery. These tools act after a chargeback arrives, building evidence and submitting responses to win money back, or using alerts to refund before a dispute becomes a chargeback. Chargeflow sits here, and it pairs with either of the first two groups.

Small stores with low fraud rates often do well with scoring plus manual review. Stores in high-risk categories, or those that ship expensive items fast, often find a guarantee cheaper than the staff time and losses it replaces.

1. Signifyd — Best for a Full Chargeback Guarantee

Best for: Growing Shopify, BigCommerce and enterprise stores that want fraud decisions automated and chargeback liability shifted to the vendor.

What Signifyd does well

  • Gives real-time approve or decline decisions at checkout, with expert re-review of declined orders.
  • Offers a configurable financial guarantee that can range from fraud chargebacks only to all chargebacks, which Signifyd describes as a total liability shift.
  • Its Shopify listing also covers return abuse, flagging serial abusers and policy violations.

Potential drawbacks

  • Pricing is not published. You need a custom quote.
  • The fee is a percentage of each approved order, so cost scales directly with revenue.
  • Some recent Shopify App Store reviews mention billing and order-cancellation complaints, so ask about both during the sales process.

Pricing

Signifyd does not publish prices. Its pricing page says it charges a percentage of the order total on approved orders, with no charge for orders declined as fraud, and that the rate depends on your products, vertical, order volume and average ticket. The Shopify app is free to install with a 14-day trial, after which charges apply. Source: Signifyd pricing page and Shopify App Store listing, checked November 7, 2026.

2. Wyllo (formerly NoFraud) — Best Guarantee With Published Shopify Pricing

Best for: Shopify stores under $50,000 a month in revenue that want a chargeback guarantee without a sales call.

What Wyllo does well

  • Screening uses AI models plus custom rules, and Shopify setup is advertised at under five minutes.
  • Paid plans include a guarantee on fraud chargebacks for orders the app approved, plus optional expert manual review and branded customer verification.
  • After its acquisition of Yofi and its March 2026 rebrand, the company now also targets policy abuse across returns, refunds and support.

Potential drawbacks

  • Each plan caps how much it will reimburse per chargeback ($500, $1,000 or $2,000), so high-ticket stores need the top tier or a custom plan.
  • Published prices apply only to stores under $50,000 a month in revenue.
  • The free screening tier does not include the guarantee or manual review.

Pricing

Screening Only: free, up to 100 screened orders a month after a 14-day trial. With $500 guarantee: 1% of revenue, minimum $250/month. With $1,000 guarantee: 1.25% of revenue, minimum $350/month. With $2,000 guarantee: 1.5% of revenue, minimum $450/month. Stores above $50,000 a month get custom pricing. Source: Wyllo (NoFraud) Shopify App Store listing, checked November 7, 2026.

3. Stripe Radar — Best for Stores Already on Stripe

Best for: WooCommerce and custom stores that process payments through Stripe and want fraud screening built into their processor.

What Stripe Radar does well

  • Radar Lite, which covers card payments and card testing, is included with Stripe’s standard payments pricing.
  • Paid tiers add coverage across payment methods, fraud analytics and early fraud warnings (Standard), then 0–99 risk scores, custom rules with backtesting, manual reviews and Adaptive 3D Secure (Plus).
  • Stripe says Radar is trained on more than 70 trillion data points and reduces fraud by 32% on average. That is Stripe’s own figure.

Potential drawbacks

  • It is a scoring tool with no chargeback guarantee. You still pay for fraud you approve.
  • Radar pricing is changing. Stripe’s support page says new pricing takes effect January 22, 2027, when trials of Radar Standard end and charges begin for many existing users.
  • Most Shopify stores take payments through Shopify Payments, so Radar is mainly relevant if Stripe is your processor.

Pricing

Radar Lite: included with standard Stripe payments pricing. Radar Standard: from $10/month. Radar Plus: from $14/month. Radar Pro: from $20/month. Each paid tier also has a pay-as-you-go option, but the per-transaction rates were not shown in the page content we could read, so check the pricing page for your volume. Platforms and marketplaces pay more, and enterprises can request custom pricing. Source: Stripe Radar pricing page, checked November 7, 2026.

4. FraudLabs Pro — Best Free Start for WooCommerce

Best for: Small WooCommerce stores that want automated fraud scoring and rules without a monthly bill at the start.

What FraudLabs Pro does well

  • A free WooCommerce plugin on WordPress.org connects your store to the service and supports HPOS.
  • Checks cover IP geolocation, proxies, email, billing and shipping addresses, card data, velocity, devices and a shared blacklist, with custom validation rules.
  • Paid tiers add disposable email and phone checks, anomaly detection, account takeover protection and SMS verification.

Potential drawbacks

  • Scoring only, with no chargeback guarantee.
  • The free plan has only 5 validation rules and is limited to stores with under $25,000 in monthly sales.
  • The plugin has a small review base on WordPress.org (18 reviews), so there is less community feedback than for larger plugins.

Pricing

Micro: free, 500 queries/month (for stores with under $25,000 in monthly sales). Mini: $29.95/month, 1,500 queries. Small: $99.95/month, 5,000 queries. Medium: $249.95/month, 25,000 queries. Large: $499.95/month, 100,000 queries. Enterprise: $1,249.95/month, 500,000 queries. SMS verification and account takeover protection are add-ons with prices not shown on the page. 5. Chargeflow — Best for Chargeback Recovery

Best for: Stores that already get chargebacks and want them fought automatically, on a pay-only-when-you-win basis.

What Chargeflow does well

  • Automation builds and submits dispute evidence for you, and you pay only on chargebacks it recovers.
  • Alerts uses the Visa RDR, Ethoca and CDRN networks to resolve disputes before they become chargebacks.
  • Native integrations include Shopify, WooCommerce, Stripe, PayPal, Adyen, Braintree, BigCommerce and Square.

Potential drawbacks

  • Recovery is not prevention. A 25% success fee on every win adds up if your fraud rate is high, so pair it with a screening tool.
  • Its Prevent screening product works only on Shopify stores using Shopify Payments.
  • Billing is usage-based and invoiced after each event, so monthly cost varies.

Pricing

Automation: 25% of recovered chargebacks, with no monthly minimum. Alerts: $29 per deflected chargeback, with volume pricing above 50 alerts a month. Prevent 2.0: $0.10 per scanned transaction, with the first 1,000 scans free for new merchants through December 31, 2026. Insights: free. Which Fraud Prevention Tool Is Right for You?

Use this decision path to narrow it down in about a minute.

Pick your fraud tool

Start at the top and follow the path that matches your store.

Step 1. Do you want the vendor to pay for fraud chargebacks it misses?
Yes, I want a guarantee
Shopify store under $50K/month? → Wyllo
Larger store or want all chargebacks covered? → Signifyd
No, I will review orders myself
Processing through Stripe? → Stripe Radar
WooCommerce with another gateway? → FraudLabs Pro
Step 2. Already receiving chargebacks? → Add Chargeflow to fight them on a success-fee basis.
Step 3. Measure again after 60 days: chargeback rate, order approval rate and hours spent on manual review.

What to Look for in Ecommerce Fraud Prevention Software

  • Who carries the risk. Decide first whether you want a guarantee or are willing to absorb losses in exchange for a lower fee. That choice narrows the field fast.
  • Approval rate, not just fraud caught. A tool that blocks every risky order also blocks good customers. Ask vendors how they measure false declines.
  • Platform and processor fit. Some tools only work with certain gateways, such as Radar with Stripe or Chargeflow Prevent with Shopify Payments.
  • Guarantee terms. Read what is covered, per-order caps, claim deadlines and whether non-fraud disputes like “item not received” are included.
  • Total cost at your volume. Model a percentage-of-revenue fee against a flat fee plus your expected chargeback losses and review time.

Quick Wins You Can Make Before Buying Anything

  1. Turn on address and card verification checks. Most gateways support AVS and CVV matching. Review orders where they fail before you ship.
  2. Use the fraud signals you already have. Shopify shows a fraud analysis on each order, and Stripe users get Radar Lite on card payments. Check them on every high-value order.
  3. Hold high-risk orders before fulfillment. A short delay on expensive or rush-shipped orders gives you time to verify the buyer.
  4. Use clear billing descriptors and fast support. Many disputes start when a customer does not recognize a charge or cannot reach you. A recognizable descriptor and quick replies prevent some of them.
  5. Keep your site and plugins secure. Card testing and account takeover often start with weak logins. See our guide to the best WordPress security plugins if you run WooCommerce.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ecommerce fraud prevention software?

It is software that screens online orders for signs of fraud, such as stolen cards or fake accounts, and approves, declines or flags each order before you ship. Some tools also guarantee approved orders or help you fight chargebacks.

What is a chargeback guarantee?

It is a promise from the vendor to reimburse you if an order it approved turns into a fraud chargeback. Signifyd and Wyllo both offer one. Coverage limits and exclusions vary, so read the terms.

Is a chargeback guarantee worth paying for?

It depends on your fraud rate and average order value. If fraud losses plus manual review time cost you more than the percentage fee, a guarantee usually pays for itself. Low-risk stores often save money with a scoring tool instead.

What is the best fraud prevention for Shopify?

Wyllo publishes guarantee plans on the Shopify App Store and has a free screening tier, while Signifyd offers custom-quoted guarantees for larger stores. Browse more options in our list of the best Shopify apps.

What is the best fraud prevention for WooCommerce?

FraudLabs Pro has a free WooCommerce plugin and a free plan for 500 checks a month. If you process payments through Stripe, Stripe Radar also covers your WooCommerce orders.

Is Stripe Radar free?

Radar Lite, which covers card payments and card testing, is included with Stripe’s standard payments pricing. Radar Standard, Plus and Pro are paid tiers starting at $10, $14 and $20 a month, and new pricing takes effect January 22, 2027.

What is the difference between fraud prevention and chargeback management?

Fraud prevention stops bad orders before you ship. Chargeback management, like Chargeflow, responds to disputes after they are filed and tries to recover the money. Most stores with real fraud exposure benefit from both.

What is friendly fraud?

Friendly fraud is when a real customer disputes a legitimate purchase, for example by claiming an item never arrived. Screening tools catch it less often, which is why dispute tools and clear policies matter.

How much does ecommerce fraud prevention software cost?

From free to a percentage of revenue. Among the tools above, FraudLabs Pro and Wyllo have free tiers, Stripe Radar paid tiers start at $10 a month, Wyllo’s guarantee starts at $250 a month, and Signifyd quotes a custom percentage.

Do I need a developer to set this up?

Most tools install as a Shopify app or WooCommerce plugin in under an hour. If you need custom rules, a gateway change or a cleaner store build, our WordPress development service can help.

Final Verdict: Which Ecommerce Fraud Prevention Software Should You Choose?

If you want fraud chargebacks off your books, choose a guarantee. Wyllo is the easier start for Shopify stores under $50,000 a month because its plans are published, while Signifyd suits larger stores that want broader coverage and are comfortable with a custom quote. If you would rather keep the risk and the savings, use Stripe Radar when Stripe is your processor or FraudLabs Pro on WooCommerce. Either way, add Chargeflow if disputes are already reaching you.

Your next step: pull your chargeback rate and fraud losses for the last 90 days, apply the quick wins above, and then compare the cost of one tool against those numbers. Pick the option that lowers total cost, not just the one that blocks the most orders.
