Best SMS Marketing Software for Ecommerce: 5 Tools to Drive Sales by Text

Software Comparison • SMS Marketing • Ecommerce

Email inboxes are crowded, and promotional tabs hide a lot of what stores send. A text message lands on the lock screen of a phone almost everyone carries. That reach is why so many stores now treat SMS as a second core channel next to email, especially for abandoned carts, back-in-stock alerts and time-limited offers.

SMS marketing software for ecommerce connects to your store, collects phone numbers with consent, and sends automated texts based on what shoppers do: browse a product, leave a cart, place an order. It also handles the parts that are easy to get wrong by hand, such as opt-outs, quiet hours and carrier registration. Pricing usually combines a platform fee with a per-message rate, so the right tool depends on your list size and how often you plan to text.

Below, we compare five well-known options for Shopify and WooCommerce stores, show what each one costs according to its official pricing page or app listing, and cover the US compliance basics you need before your first send. If you already use email automation, our marketing automation software guide explains how SMS fits into a wider setup.

Editorial note: this article contains no affiliate links. Prices and features were checked against each vendor’s official pages on November 7, 2026, and we have not hands-on tested these tools. Vendors change plans often, so confirm current pricing before you buy.

Quick answer: For Shopify stores that want a dedicated SMS tool with clear per-message pricing, start with Postscript. If you want email and SMS on one customer profile, choose Klaviyo. WooCommerce and multi-platform stores on a budget should look at Omnisend, which now sells SMS on its Pro plan. Shopify brands that want their SMS run for them can consider Recart, and larger brands that want an AI-led, quote-based program should talk to Attentive.

  • Best for Shopify SMS-first brands: Postscript
  • Best for large brands and managed programs: Attentive
  • Best for email and SMS on one profile: Klaviyo
  • Best for WooCommerce and multi-platform stores: Omnisend
  • Best for managed SMS on Shopify: Recart

Why Text Messages Reach Shoppers Email Misses

Pew Research Center’s 2026 survey found that 98% of US adults own a cellphone and 91% own a smartphone. Few channels can claim that kind of reach. The catch is that texting is also more regulated and more personal than email, so the cost of getting it wrong is higher.

SMS by the numbers

Sources: Pew Research Center mobile fact sheet (survey January 30 to June 18, 2026); Postscript, Omnisend and Recart pricing pages; Twilio changelog.

98% and 91%. Share of US adults who own a cellphone and a smartphone.
$0.007 to $0.010. Range of entry US per-SMS rates on the published plans of Postscript, Omnisend and Recart, before carrier fees where those apply.
About $0.003. Per-SMS US carrier fee passed through by Postscript ($0.0033) and Recart ($0.003).
September 1, 2023. Date from which Twilio blocks all unregistered US-bound messages sent from 10DLC numbers.

Two takeaways. First, per-message costs look tiny until you multiply them by your list and your send frequency, so model a realistic month before choosing a plan. Second, registration and consent are not optional extras. Pick a tool that handles them for you. Texts work best as part of a planned sequence with email, which we cover in our Klaviyo vs Omnisend comparison.

1. Postscript — Best for Shopify SMS-First Brands

Best for: Shopify stores that want a dedicated SMS platform with published, pay-as-you-send pricing.

What Postscript does well

  • All marketing plans include a visual flow builder, list growth tools, a dedicated toll-free number, segmentation with Shopify data and two-way texting.
  • Billing is pay-after-you-send, with no prepaid balances or expiring credits.
  • Per-message rates drop as you move up plans, from $0.009 to $0.007 per SMS.

Potential drawbacks

  • Built for Shopify brands. The pricing page did not confirm support for other platforms.
  • The free Starter plan carries a $49 monthly minimum spend.
  • Carrier fees are added on top of the listed rates.

Pricing

Starter: $0/month with a $49 monthly minimum spend, $0.009/SMS, $0.045/MMS. Growth: $100/month, $0.008/SMS, $0.03/MMS. Professional: $500/month, $0.007/SMS, $0.024/MMS. Enterprise: custom. A separate Postscript AI Plan is $699/month. US carrier fees are passed through at cost ($0.0033 per SMS, $0.00799 per MMS). The Shopify listing adds a $100 credit for the first 30 days and a 30-day free trial on Growth and Professional. 2. Attentive — Best for Large Brands and Managed Programs

Best for: Larger brands that want AI-led SMS, email, RCS and push from one vendor, with a sales-led setup.

What Attentive does well

  • Personalizes who gets a message, what it says and when, using browsing, cart and purchase data.
  • Attentive Concierge combines AI and live agents for two-way conversations and routes complex questions to your team.
  • A patented two-tap sign-up flow is built to grow your subscriber list on mobile.

Potential drawbacks

  • No public prices. You need a quote.
  • Likely more platform than a small store needs.
  • The public compliance page names few specific tools, so ask for details during the sales process.

Pricing

Attentive does not publish prices. Its pricing page says plans are quote-based on list size and messages sent, with usage-based billing and no credit system. Its Shopify App Store listing says it is free to install, with a minimum 30-day free trial and month-to-month or long-term agreements afterward. We could not confirm any dollar amounts, so request a quote at attentive.com/pricing.

3. Klaviyo — Best for Email and SMS on One Profile

Best for: Shopify and WooCommerce stores that want email and texts driven by the same customer data and flows.

What Klaviyo does well

  • Integrates with Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce and Wix, among others.
  • Collects marketing and transactional SMS consent separately, and includes a Compliance Hub plus quiet hours by area code.
  • Personalized send times and automatic testing pick the best version and timing for each subscriber.

Potential drawbacks

  • Klaviyo is moving accounts from SMS credits to per-message pricing, and the public pages do not list a US per-message rate.
  • The pricing page is inconsistent about whether SMS is included or an add-on on paid plans.
  • Costs rise with both your profile count and your message volume.

Pricing

Free: up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends a month and $5 of mobile messages a month. Email: from $20/month for 500 profiles. Marketing: from $25/month, with a limited-time $1 first month for eligible accounts. Klaviyo’s SMS page gives an example of 1,000 US toll-free messages a month for $15. We could not confirm a standard US per-message rate, so check your rates in Klaviyo’s billing settings. Source: Klaviyo pricing and SMS pages, checked November 7, 2026.

4. Omnisend — Best for WooCommerce and Multi-Platform Stores

Best for: WooCommerce, Shopify, BigCommerce and Wix stores that want email and SMS automation at a lower entry price.

What Omnisend does well

  • Supports Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Ecwid and Shoplazza.
  • Pre-built SMS automations cover cart recovery, welcome series, birthdays and shipping updates.
  • Includes frequency capping and localized quiet hours to limit late or excessive sends.

Potential drawbacks

  • SMS is available only on the Pro plan for accounts that did not have an SMS subscription before May 4, 2026.
  • SMS credits expire after 60 days.
  • The $59 Pro price is a starting figure, and the page does not say which contact count it covers.

Pricing

Pro: from $59/month, plus an SMS credits subscription. US SMS rates by monthly SMS spend: $0.009 ($10 to $49.99), $0.0085 ($50 to $999.99), $0.008 ($1,000 to $9,999.99) and $0.007 ($10,000+). Free and Standard ($16/month) plans no longer include SMS for new subscribers. When we checked, the pricing page also offered 30% off when paying three months upfront. 5. Recart — Best for Managed SMS on Shopify

Best for: Shopify stores that want a customer success team to help run their SMS program, with included message bundles.

What Recart does well

  • Every main plan includes unlimited active subscribers, a verified toll-free number, and full migration and onboarding.
  • Paid plans include a bundle of messages, such as 23,000 SMS on Starter with a 12-month term.
  • Scale and Enterprise add a dedicated success manager and fully managed service.

Potential drawbacks

  • Shopify only.
  • Main plans require a 3, 6 or 12-month commitment, and shorter terms cost more per month.
  • The pricing page shows several plan sets, and its free plan appears only on the Shopify listing, so confirm terms before you sign.

Pricing

Shopify App Store listing: a free plan with no platform fees, and Starter at $299/month with a 7-day free trial. Recart’s pricing page lists Starter at $299/month, Pro at $499/month and Scale at $999/month on its lowest-priced (12-month) term, rising to $345, $565 and $1,149 on 3-month terms. Which SMS Marketing Tool Is Right for You?

Use this decision path to narrow it down in about a minute.

Pick your SMS tool

Start at the top and follow the path that matches your store.

Step 1. Which platform are you on?
WooCommerce or multi-platform
Want the lowest entry price? → Omnisend
Already on Klaviyo email? → Klaviyo
Shopify
Want a dedicated SMS tool you run yourself? → Postscript
Want help running it? → Recart
Step 2. Large list, multiple channels and budget for a sales-led setup? → Get a quote from Attentive to compare.
Step 3. Measure after 30 days: revenue per message, opt-out rate per send and total SMS spend.

What to Look for in SMS Marketing Software for Ecommerce

  • True cost per message. Add the platform fee, per-message rate, MMS rate and carrier fees, then multiply by a realistic monthly send volume.
  • Compliance tools. Look for consent capture, automatic opt-out handling, quiet hours and help with number registration.
  • Store data and flows. Abandoned cart, browse abandonment and back-in-stock flows should use live store data. See our guide to checkout optimization software for tools that reduce abandonment before a text is needed.
  • Email coordination. If email and SMS live in separate tools, make sure they share suppression lists so shoppers are not double-messaged.
  • Attribution. Check how each tool credits a sale to a text. Click-based windows are more conservative than view-based ones.

US SMS Compliance Basics: Consent, 10DLC and Opt-Outs

This section summarizes US rules for general information only. It is not legal advice. Talk to a qualified attorney about your own program, and check state laws, which can add requirements.

  • Consent (TCPA). The FCC has treated text messages as “calls” under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act since 2003. Under FCC rules at 47 CFR 64.1200, automated telemarketing calls to wireless numbers require prior express written consent: a signed agreement (an electronic signature counts) that includes the phone number, clearly discloses what the person is agreeing to receive, and states that agreeing is not a condition of purchase.
  • 10DLC registration. Businesses that text from standard 10-digit US numbers (A2P 10DLC) register a brand and a campaign describing their use case through The Campaign Registry, usually via their messaging provider. Twilio has blocked unregistered US-bound 10DLC traffic since September 1, 2023. Some tools, including Postscript and Recart, list toll-free numbers on their plans instead, so ask your vendor which number type it uses and what registration or verification it handles for you.
  • Opt-out handling. Under the FCC’s rules, revocation requests must be honored within a reasonable time not to exceed 10 business days. Texters must honor the words stop, quit, end, revoke, opt out, cancel and unsubscribe. A single confirmation text is allowed if it only confirms the opt-out and contains no marketing; one sent within five minutes is presumed acceptable.
  • Rules are changing. The FCC published an order updating its revocation rules in the Federal Register on October 26, 2026, taking effect 30 days after publication, and is taking comments on further changes through November 25, 2026. Check the current rules before you launch.

Quick Wins You Can Make Before Buying Anything

  1. Audit your consent records. Know where every phone number on your list came from and what the person agreed to.
  2. Write your opt-in language. State who is texting, what kind of messages, roughly how often, that message and data rates may apply, and how to opt out.
  3. Start with one automation. An abandoned cart text is usually the easiest place to prove value before running campaigns.
  4. Set a sending cap. Decide how many promotional texts per week you will send, and stick to it.
  5. Coordinate with email. Check your email results first. Our email marketing statistics roundup gives useful benchmarks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SMS marketing software for ecommerce?

It is software that connects to your online store to collect phone numbers with consent and send automated and campaign texts, such as abandoned cart reminders, order updates and promotions.

What is the best SMS marketing software for ecommerce?

It depends on your platform and how hands-on you want to be. Postscript and Recart suit Shopify stores, Klaviyo and Omnisend work across Shopify and WooCommerce, and Attentive targets larger brands.

How much does SMS marketing cost?

Expect a platform fee plus a per-message rate. Published US rates among these tools start around $0.007 to $0.010 per SMS, and some vendors add carrier fees of about $0.003 per SMS.

Is SMS marketing legal?

Yes, when you follow the rules. In the US, that means getting proper consent, registering your numbers and honoring opt-outs. This is not legal advice, so check with an attorney.

What is 10DLC?

10DLC means a standard 10-digit long code phone number used for business texting. US carriers require businesses to register a brand and campaign through The Campaign Registry before sending from these numbers.

How fast do I have to honor an opt-out?

FCC rules require a reasonable time not to exceed 10 business days. SMS platforms typically process STOP replies automatically, but confirm that yours also recognizes the other opt-out words the FCC lists.

Can I text customers who bought from me but never opted in?

Not for marketing. A purchase alone is not written consent for promotional texts, and consent cannot be a condition of purchase.

Does SMS work for WooCommerce stores?

Yes. Klaviyo and Omnisend both integrate with WooCommerce. Postscript and Recart are built for Shopify.

Should I use SMS instead of email?

No. Use both. Email suits longer content and frequent sends, while SMS works best for short, timely messages.

Do I need a developer to set this up?

Most SMS tools install from an app store or plugin. If your WooCommerce store needs custom sign-up forms or tracking, our WordPress development service can help.

Final Verdict: Which SMS Marketing Software Should You Choose?

If you run Shopify and want a dedicated SMS tool with transparent pricing, start with Postscript, or choose Recart if you want a team to help run the program. If email and SMS should share one customer profile, use Klaviyo. WooCommerce and multi-platform stores watching costs should compare Omnisend’s Pro plan, and larger brands can get an Attentive quote to compare.

Your next step: confirm your consent and registration setup, launch one abandoned cart text, and review revenue per message and opt-out rate after 30 days. A small, compliant program you measure beats a big one you have to unwind.
