Quick Answer
ChatGPT SEO prompts are structured, reusable instructions that help you use ChatGPT for specific SEO tasks — keyword research, content planning, on-page optimization, competitor analysis, technical SEO, link building, and more. This library contains 500 ready-to-use prompts organized into 14 categories. Copy a prompt, replace the bracketed placeholders with your real data, and review the output before you use it — ChatGPT can’t guarantee rankings, and it works best alongside real SERP data, Search Console data, and your own judgment.
This is a working library, not a novelty list. Every prompt below is built for a real SEO task you’ll actually run this month — not a generic instruction to “write an article about [topic].” Each one uses placeholders like [TOPIC], [PRIMARY KEYWORD], and [COMPETITOR] so you can drop in your own business details, keywords, and country before you run it.
A quick note on scope before you dive in: this page is being published in parts because 500 genuinely distinct prompts is a lot of ground to cover well. This installment covers the introduction, the stats, the prompt-writing framework, and the first two full categories — Keyword Research (Prompts 1–40) and Content Strategy (Prompts 41–75). The remaining categories are on the way.
These prompts are meant to speed up research and drafting, not replace the tools that actually hold ranking, volume, and backlink data. If you want the fuller picture on how AI fits into a modern SEO stack, our breakdown of keyword and competitor research tools and our link building strategies guide are good companion reads.
Every prompt card below also has a Copy prompt button. Click it to copy the prompt straight to your clipboard. If your WordPress setup strips the underlying script when this is pasted in, the buttons will simply sit inert — every prompt stays fully visible and selectable by hand either way.
Why ChatGPT SEO Prompts Matter Right Now
AI-assisted workflows have moved from experiment to standard practice across marketing teams. The numbers below are pulled from recent industry research, not estimates.
| Statistic | Finding | Source | Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI adoption in marketing | 91% of marketing teams now use AI to assist with their work | HubSpot, State of Marketing | 2026 |
| ChatGPT for content | 44% of surveyed marketers used ChatGPT for content creation, the most-used AI model in the survey | Ahrefs marketer survey | 2025 |
| ChatGPT scale | OpenAI reported more than 900 million weekly active ChatGPT users | OpenAI | Feb. 2026 |
| AI output review | 56% of marketers rewrite AI-generated text and 38% make minor edits before publishing; only 7% publish it unedited | HubSpot | 2026 |
| Small business AI use | 67% of small businesses use AI for content and SEO strategies | Semrush | 2026 |
| Content marketing AI use | 97% of content marketing programs now involve AI in some part of the workflow | Siege Media | 2026 |
These figures describe adoption of AI tools in general marketing workflows, not a claim that AI-written content ranks better. Treat AI output as a research and drafting accelerant that still needs editing, fact-checking, and real data behind it.

How to Use These Prompts
- Choose the SEO task you’re actually working on today — don’t try to use all 500 at once.
- Copy the prompt exactly as written from the card.
- Replace the placeholders (the bracketed text) with your real topic, keywords, audience, and country.
- Add your real data — paste in actual keyword lists, Search Console exports, or article summaries where a prompt calls for it.
- Review the output critically. Treat it as a first draft or a starting framework, not a finished deliverable.
- Verify important facts, statistics, and claims before they go anywhere near a published page.
- Edit for expertise and originality so the final content sounds like you, not like generic AI output.
- Publish and measure — track rankings, traffic, and conversions, and feed what you learn back into your next prompt.
The 5-Part SEO Prompt Formula
Every prompt in this library follows a version of the same underlying structure. Once you understand it, you can write your own prompts for tasks that aren’t covered below.
Role + Context + Objective + Constraints + Output Format
For example: “Act as [ROLE]. Here is my context: [CONTEXT]. My objective is [OBJECTIVE]. Follow these constraints: [CONSTRAINTS]. Return the result as [OUTPUT FORMAT].” Giving ChatGPT a role focuses its tone and expertise. Context prevents generic answers. A clear objective keeps the output on task. Constraints stop it from padding or rambling. And specifying the output format (table, numbered list, grouped by category) makes the result immediately usable instead of something you have to reformat by hand.
Reusable prompt variables you’ll see throughout this library:
Weak Prompt vs. Better Prompt
Weak prompt
“Write an SEO article about running shoes.”
Better prompt
“Act as an SEO content writer. Write an outline for an article targeting the keyword ‘best running shoes for flat feet,’ aimed at recreational runners in the US. The search intent is commercial investigation. Include sections comparing at least 3 shoe types, address common objections about cost and durability, and suggest 2 internal linking opportunities to a shoe-buying-guide page. Return the outline as H2/H3 headings with a one-line description under each.”
The second version works because it defines the audience, the search intent, the structure, and the output format. ChatGPT isn’t guessing what you want — it’s executing a brief.
How to Write Better ChatGPT SEO Prompts
- Give ChatGPT a role. “Act as an SEO strategist” produces sharper output than no role at all.
- Define the objective clearly. Vague goals produce vague answers.
- Provide real context. Your industry, audience, and current situation matter.
- Specify the audience. A prompt for beginners should read differently than one for experts.
- Include your actual keywords instead of asking ChatGPT to guess them from scratch.
- State the search intent so the output matches what searchers actually want.
- Set constraints — word count, tone, what to avoid, required sections.
- Request structured output like tables or numbered lists so it’s usable immediately.
- Give examples of the style or format you want when possible.
- Supply first-party data — Search Console exports, customer language, real numbers.
- Ask it to flag assumptions so you know what to verify before publishing.
- Request fact-checking flags on any statistic or claim it generates.
- Break complex tasks into stages instead of asking for an entire strategy in one prompt.

A quick heads-up on the copy buttons: WordPress’s content filter has been known to strip <style> blocks on this site, and it can treat <script> tags the same way depending on how the content is pasted in. Paste this into a Custom HTML block, preview the post, and click a Copy button to confirm it works before you publish. If the buttons don’t fire for any reason, nothing else breaks — every prompt is still fully visible and selectable by hand.

If a page’s decline traces back to a technical issue rather than the content itself, rule that out first with our indexing issues guide before you invest time in a content rewrite.
This installment leans more technical than the last two. Several prompts here ask you to describe what you’re seeing (a SERP, a robots.txt file, a Search Console report) rather than generating a list from scratch — that’s intentional. ChatGPT can’t crawl your site or pull live SERP data on its own, so these prompts are built to work with information you paste in, not guesses it makes up.

Affiliate content lives or dies on trust signals holding up under scrutiny. If you’re comparing SEO or research tools as part of your own review process, our Ahrefs review shows the level of hands-on detail worth aiming for.
This category runs broader than the others on purpose — programmatic SEO, workflow design, automation scoping, large-scale audits, enterprise coordination, international rollout, and semantic content modeling all get grouped here because they share a common trait: they’re about how SEO work gets planned and scaled, not just what gets published. A few of these prompts (the enterprise and international ones especially) will be overkill if you’re running a single affiliate site — skip to whichever block actually matches the size of what you’re managing.

Common ChatGPT SEO Prompt Mistakes
- Being too vague. Prompts like "help me with SEO" produce generic output. Specific inputs produce specific, usable output.
- Giving no context. ChatGPT doesn't know your industry, audience, or business unless you tell it every time.
- Not defining search intent. A prompt that ignores intent often produces content in the wrong format for what's actually ranking.
- Asking for keyword stuffing. Requesting a keyword be repeated a set number of times produces unnatural copy that reads worse and doesn't help rankings.
- Publishing AI output without review. Treat every output as a first draft. Fact-check claims, verify statistics, and edit for your actual voice.
- Inventing statistics. Never let a prompt fill in a number you don't have. Ask it to flag where real data is needed instead.
- Ignoring first-party data. Search Console, Analytics, and customer language will always beat a generic ChatGPT guess.
- Treating AI as an SEO replacement. ChatGPT can't crawl your site, pull live rankings, or see real SERP data. It's a drafting and thinking accelerant, not a research tool on its own.
- Forgetting internal links. AI-generated outlines rarely include internal linking unless you explicitly ask for it and provide your existing pages.
- Ignoring user experience. Content optimized purely for a keyword, with no thought to what the reader actually needs, tends to underperform even when it ranks.
- Creating repetitive content. Running the same prompt for many similar pages without real differentiation produces content that reads as templated to both readers and search engines.
- Chasing keywords instead of solving problems. The keyword is a signal of what someone needs, not the goal itself. Content that solves the underlying problem outperforms content that just targets the term.
ChatGPT vs. SEO Tools
ChatGPT and a dedicated SEO platform solve different problems. Here's a fair breakdown of where each one actually has the edge.
| Task | ChatGPT | Dedicated SEO Tool |
|---|---|---|
| Brainstorming | Excellent | Good |
| Keyword ideas | Good | Excellent |
| Keyword volume & difficulty data | Not available directly | Excellent |
| SERP analysis | Only with data you provide | Excellent |
| Content ideation | Excellent | Good |
| Technical crawling | Not possible directly | Excellent |
| Content drafting/rewriting | Excellent | Good |
| Competitor backlink analysis | Only with data you provide | Excellent |
The two work best together: use a research tool for the data ChatGPT can't access on its own, and use ChatGPT to move faster through the thinking, drafting, and analysis once you have that data in hand. Our comparison of the major SEO platforms is a good next stop if you're deciding which one to pair this library with.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best ChatGPT prompt for SEO?
There isn't one single best prompt — it depends on the task. A well-built prompt gives ChatGPT a role, real context about your business, a clear objective, and the output format you need. The 5-Part Prompt Formula covered earlier in this library (Role + Context + Objective + Constraints + Output Format) works as a starting template for writing your own.
Can ChatGPT generate SEO keywords?
Yes, ChatGPT can brainstorm keyword ideas, long-tail variations, and question-based phrases based on a topic. It doesn't have access to real search volume or ranking difficulty data, so keyword ideas from ChatGPT should be checked against an actual keyword research tool before you commit content resources to them.
Is ChatGPT good for keyword research?
It's genuinely useful for the brainstorming and clustering stages of keyword research — expanding a seed keyword, grouping keywords by intent, or spotting long-tail angles you might not think of. It's not a substitute for a tool with real search volume and competition data.
Can ChatGPT write SEO-friendly content?
ChatGPT can draft content that follows good on-page SEO structure — clear headings, keyword placement, logical flow — when you give it the right instructions. Whether the result actually ranks well still depends on accuracy, depth, originality, and how much editing goes into it before publishing.
Can ChatGPT replace an SEO tool?
No. ChatGPT can't crawl your site, pull live search rankings, or access real backlink or search volume data. It's best used alongside dedicated SEO tools — for drafting, brainstorming, and analyzing data you feed it — not as a replacement for them.
How do I prompt ChatGPT for SEO?
Give it a role ("act as an SEO strategist"), real context about your business and audience, a specific objective, any constraints (length, tone, what to avoid), and the output format you want. The more specific the input, the more usable the output.
What should I include in an SEO prompt?
At minimum: your topic or keyword, your target audience, the search intent you're targeting, and the format you want back. For tasks involving real data — audits, competitor analysis, reporting — include the actual data rather than asking ChatGPT to guess it.
Can ChatGPT analyze competitors?
ChatGPT can help you think through competitor positioning, content gaps, and differentiation angles if you describe what you're seeing — a competitor's content, their SERP presence, their pricing page. It can't independently browse and analyze a competitor's site or pull their traffic and ranking data on its own.
Can ChatGPT optimize meta descriptions?
Yes, this is one of its stronger use cases. Give it your target keyword, the page's topic, and a character limit, and it can generate several meta description options to test.
Can ChatGPT help with technical SEO?
It can explain technical concepts, help you interpret data you paste in (a robots.txt file, a Search Console report, a list of redirect chains), and suggest fixes. It can't crawl your site or detect technical issues on its own — that still requires a crawler or Search Console.
Can ChatGPT help with local SEO?
Yes — writing Google Business Profile descriptions, generating local keyword variations, drafting review responses, and outlining location landing pages are all things it handles well when given real business details.
Can ChatGPT help with ecommerce SEO?
It can help draft product and category descriptions, plan internal linking, and think through structural decisions like faceted navigation or variant handling. Implementation of schema, redirects, and technical fixes still needs to happen in your platform directly.
Can ChatGPT optimize content for AI search?
Yes — this is what the AEO/GEO prompts in this library are built for: writing direct, self-contained answers, clarifying entities, and structuring content so AI systems can extract and cite it accurately.
Are ChatGPT SEO prompts free?
The prompts themselves cost nothing to use — this library is free to reference. Running them requires access to ChatGPT, which has both a free tier and paid plans with different usage limits and model access.
Can Google detect ChatGPT-written content?
Google has stated publicly that it doesn't penalize content simply for being AI-assisted; it evaluates content on whether it's helpful, original, and demonstrates real expertise, regardless of how it was produced. Thin, unedited, or inaccurate AI output tends to underperform for the same reasons thin human-written content does — not because it was detected as AI.
The Takeaway
The value in this library was never really about having 500 prompts. It's the same as it is with any tool: better inputs lead to better analysis, better analysis leads to better decisions, better decisions lead to better content, and better content is what actually moves rankings.
Don't try to work through all 500 this week. Pick one SEO problem you're dealing with right now, copy the relevant prompt, add your real data, and see what comes back. That's the whole workflow — repeated on whatever you're stuck on next.
Ready to put these prompts to work?
Start with whichever prompt matches the problem in front of you today. Add your real business details, verify anything factual before it goes anywhere near a published page, and keep the prompts that actually earn a place in your workflow.
